The Strange Attractor of Trauma: The Negativity Bias and the Age of Disintegration
In our second podcast, Organic Intelligence® founder Steven Hoskinson helps us rethink our psychology of trauma treatment. Meant to inform clinicians and non-clinicians alike, this information will help anybody dealing with trauma. First we will see how trauma is everywhere — and exactly how trauma keeps itself going over and over again. Trauma biology is addiction biology.
So what keeps us stuck? It’s that our attention becomes habitually and unintentionally fixated on what’s wrong. Most theorists say that this “negativity bias” is inborn, hard wired as a survival tool. Organic Intelligence suggests otherwise, and will point to signs and research that says the “What’s Wrong Attention” is learned, not inborn. This means it can be unlearned! Also to be unlearned: “trauma”. Steve says, “Trauma means unintegrated resource”. We’ll learn what this might mean, and in coming podcasts get better understandings and tools to free ourselves.
